Let's unwrite these pages And replace them with our own words
Tired. That was the emotion that came to the forefront when she thought about all the trouble she had to go through just to be able to go home back to New York. The American embassy in Tokyo was being a pain in her ass in more ways than one with them wanting her to stay rather than go on a vacation, the reason for which was dubbed as other - it was none of their business why she needed to go home, after all.
As though all of that wasn't enough to make her want to pull her damn hair off of her head, all of the schoolwork she had to do had also left the blonde feeling utterly exhausted. Papers upon papers, projects upon projects. She couldn't even remember how many redbull and coffee fueled all-nighters she's had in the past few weeks. Definitely far too many to call her already questionable lifestyle heavy. It didn't help that Rin made it her mission to annoy her with all of that Disney bullshit that the blonde found utterly detestable. Yes, normally she wouldn't really give a fuck but with how easily irritable she's been lately it has done nothing other than actually piss her off.
Then there was the whole reason as to why the lioness needed to go home in the first place. Yes, at this point in time she was treating this as a vacation - it was the whole reason she invited Rin to join too, have the little Raven peer into the lioness world for a few days, see where she'd come from, the life she's lead, the friends she's made. Plus it would be a welcome change from the constant rat-race that was Yuuei. She enjoyed it, don't get her wrong. But even the most seasoned of artists sometimes needed a change of pace lest their muse ran out dry.
But Nat... the way she talked over the phone had Jasmine worried. The lioness was always good at reading people and that didn't change regardless of the fact that Natalie was an entire ocean away. The subtle changes in her tone of voice, the words she said - the accummulated knowledge that Jasmine had of the girl made her well aware that something was wrong. It was a cry for help that made the blonde painfully aware that this wasn't going to be a leisure trip. She was also well aware that her friends back in the states wouldn't bother her unless it was something they legitimately couldn't handle themselves. And if that was the case... Jasmine was dreading the worst.
The girl needed a well deserved break from all the bullshit swirling in her life. She had recently had a thought of picking up a musical instrument again - one of her late best friends, Michael, had been pretty good way back when and had taught her how to play. Granted, she hadn't played in years but she figured it would be a nice thing to get back into. Darren's been bothering her incessantly about joining his band and, well... it'd be nice to be able to play a few songs that Rin could sing to.
Jack had been nice enough to lend her his acoustic guitar - a guitar that she now packed up in its case, went over to the garage, started Bumblebee up and stormed down the streets of Musutafu; her destination - Tokyo, a place where very few people knew who she was... aside the now numerous glances of recognition she's been getting ever since the Sports Festival. That still amused her.
In any case, the blonde lioness had left her bike at the parking lot and calmly walked along the pathways of the park until she found a lone bench, an oak tree next to it, its leaves casting a light shadow from the sunlight. A small smile came to her lips as she sat down and placed the guitar on her lap, rolling up her jacket's sleeves to reveal her many tattoos before running her fingers along the strings gently, humming to herself at the nice sound it made.
"Alright, where do we start..." she wondered, going through a selection of songs in her mind. Before long she finally decided on a song and began playing - not without mistakes, mind you. The girl was still rusty. But with each song she played she kept getting better and better. Good enough to at the very least play the simplest of chords perfectly. At first she was humming along with the tune before, without realizing, she began to quietly sing along with the lyrics as well.
Step one, you say we need to talk, He walks, you say sit down, it's just talk. He smiles politely back at you, You stare politely right on through...
And she continued. On, and on, and on... a small, maybe even a little melancholic smile on her face as the song played and she kept on quietly singing to herself. And audience of none, or so she thought...

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
It was just like any other of the times he had gone to the Tokyo Hospital to visit his sister, Igarashi Yasu. Her weak body and pale skin lied motionless on the hospital bed, the machines attached to her skin being what had kept her alive since she entered that state of coma; her long hair frail and devoid of the shine it once had, just like a dying flower that hadn't seen the sun for ages. Ryuusei sat on her bedside, telling her stories of his life, playing recordings of himself playing the piano and, in a role reversal, reading her the fairy tails that she told him about when he was younger. Yasu was a sleeping beauty, but with no prince to wake her up from her slumber. Ryuu missed her deeply... he missed her so much. She had been like that for a little more than two years, but it felt like a life-time, like a distant memory that could very well be false. Did Ryuusei even remember her voice? Her laugh? The color of her eyes? How it felt to be hugged by her? He couldn't even tell for sure... It was like all of that was buried under the image of Yasu's body covered in blood on the floor of their mansion; buried under the guilt that Ryuusei felt for not having done anything when it happened. Even if she woke up... how was Ryuusei supposed to apologize to her? He was the one that should be there, not her. After leaving the hospital for the day, those were the thoughts that plagued Igarashi Ryuusei's mind. He walked slowly, since he had no place to go to - in some way, he never had. The clothes he was wearing were all black: baggy cargo pants tucked inside military-type boots; an oversized cropped hoodie that just didn't show part of Ryuu's belly because of the tight shirt of the same colour he had underneath and that was tucked inside the pants. His casual baseball cap was also black, contrasting with his medium-long blonde hair that could be seen from the sides and back. The only things that weren't black were his accessories, which were all silver: the chain on the right side of his pants, his necklace and the three hoop earing on his left ear. WIthout his intention, his legs made him reach the Tokyo Park, a place where he had been many times and was actually familiar with. It was a good place to think, so perhaps that was the reason he unconsciously moved in that direction. It didn't take long for, while walking in the park, for him to approach an area where a guitar could be heard near him. Looking around, the sound came from a bench that was underneath a tall tree... A sound of strings was now accompanied by a female humming. It was then that Ryuusei noticed who was playing. That's Jasmine, he thought to himself. Thinking about it, the last time they were alone together was at the mall, a few days before Ryuu's serious injury and time at the hospital, which was in late-november/early december. It had been a long time since then, since the two classmates had a proper conversation. Because of this, Ryuusei decided to join Jasmine. It was an english song and she was now singing it, not noting Ryuusei's presence. The boy took that opportunity to announce his arrival, his characteristic cold and mature tone cutting the melancholy of the song. Didn't take you for the type of person that plays cheesy songs while taking in the air of nature, he said before sitting down. Once on the bench and side to side with Jaz, he'd continue. I also didn't knew that you played guitar. Feeling sentimental? he asked half jokingly - even if his voice didn't indicate such - and especially due to the choice of song. Let's unwrite these pages And replace them with our own words
As it so often used to happen in the past, the second Jasmine's fingers touched the brass-plated strings of Jack's guitar her mind immediately went to a different place. Far, far away, to a place and time much different than this one, every single note played adding to the vivid display that the lioness was creating in her subconscious. A time where everything was peaceful and calm. A place where people lived without worrying that the next day may be their last. It was a world where Jasmine hadn't seen the things she'd seen or done the things she'd done. A reality where all of her friends were still there, smiling at her from the veil of light cast down on them by the bright sun up above.
Yeah, the idea was cheesy and the imagery was something you'd least expect coming from the young American's mind. Much alike drawing, playing music woke up a spark in the feisty firecracker that she very rarely showed. A state of mind where she was hardly more than a normal girl. She wasn't the fighter that everybody knew her to be but was rather your normal every day teenager wrapped up in normal every day teenager problems. Boys (or, well, in this case girls), homework, annoying parents, lack of a car... the works. It looked like those were the only things that were in her mind and it looked strangely... fitting. It was as though she didn't have to fight to get every single thing she now possessed and Jasmine felt a strange type of serenity in moments like this. Peculiar it was, but on some level it was even breathtaking.
It didn't last, though. As much as Jasmine enjoyed spending time with nobody other than herself and the familiar tune of a guitar, fate had other plans in store for her. Namely one named Ryuusei Igarashi - someone Jaz was familair with, for better or worse. While not a slight towards the boy in any way shape or form, the lioness has never really forgiven herself for what she'd done to him several months back. Would she do it all again if the results stayed the same? In a heartbeat. But was she proud of herself for doing so? No, she was not. It was one of the many paradoxes that surrounded her very peculiar and very... personal way of life.
"Oh, Ryuu," Jasmine replied, somewhat startled as she was forced back down to reality. She glanced up at the boy as he sat down, offering a small smile as she did so. "Sorry, got a little wrapped up in my own head there. What's up?"
"Haaa... well, see, punching things isn't the only thing I'm good at, believe it or not," she replied, her tone casual, warm and friendly... yet there was an undertone of slight hesitation that wasn't too difficult to notice. "Not exactly sentimental, no. I used to play. Way back when. With the days being how they've been I've sort of had this urge to pick the thing up again. Y'know, just to be able to unwind at times or to have something to do when I'm bored or resting," she admitted, glancing down at the instrument in her hands. "Christ it's been so long since I've played... my fingers are already hurting a little."
"What about you, though?" The lioness then asked, once again glancing at her classmate, "Wouldn't have pegged you for someone who left Musutafu too often. What brings you down here to Tokyo?" While maintaining an air of open friendliness came easy to her when she tried, internally the American still felt a little... conflicted. She was always somebody who consistently chewed herself out if she wronged people she cared about... or if they were someone who her close friends cared about. With Ryuusei it was both of the above, and while she still stood by the fact that she'd repeat what she did in the music night again, that didn't mean she had to feel good about it. The thought annoyed the everliving crap out of the American, but at the same time she knew that it was something that she couldn't easily shake.
God it actually sucked being a teenager sometimes.

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
Of course not, you're also pretty good at blowing stuff up, he added his own words to Jasmine's. Sitting on the bench with his elbows reaching backwards - making his arms supported by the bench itself and his hands dangling - Ryuusei was facing forward, but, with the corner of his eyes, looked with curiosity at Jasmine's demeanor while she continued talking. It was indeed Jasmine Noir sitting next to him, but it appeared that the lioness was in a weaker state than usual - not physically, but perhaps mentally. The youngest Igarashi usualy was a good reader of people and, by Jaz's tone, it seemed like there was something fogging her mind... maybe it was the reason for her to be playing guitar in the middle of the park? According to the girl, it wasn't. The hobby of playing guitar was, evidently, heavy on nostalgia for the american, but, by her words, it was just that: a hobby, something to keep her mind occupied during off days or when there wasn't much more to do. Then... Then why was Ryuusei getting this weird feeling that Jasmine was holding something back? Pain is good, means your fingers are getting into the rhythm again. I don't play, but I heard that using rubbing alcohol on your hands helps. Keeps the skin dry and makes the calluses grow quicker, he said to the long-haired blonde, voicing his knowledge on the most varied types of topics not only to help her but also to try to erase the sensation of Jasmine appearing to be hesistant around him. The girl followed shortly by asking Ryuusei what he was doing there: a fair question. By now, most of his friends knew that he hated using any kind of vehicle transportation and, since Ryuusei's house was in Musutafu... that meant that he had to walk all the way to Tokyo or endure the pain that was taking the bus, cab or even riding his bycicle. However - and even if most people weren't aware of it - the truth was that Ryuu usually ended up going to Tokyo basically everyday, before or after school. The reason wasn't anything that Ryuusei felt the need to hide, so, not knowing if Jasmine was already aware of it, he just decided to explain. I actually come to Tokyo almost everyday - he looked at the clouds - My older sister... She's at the Hospital, it's going to be three years since she's been in a coma...He inhaled for a bit while still looking up. It still felt weird to say those words out loud. He changed his focus from the sky to Jasmine, looking at his classmate before continuing. ... I come visit her, stay for some hours and then I go around the city for a bit before making my way back home. All the walking is great for my lungs, so that's a plus - he said, looking ironically at the bright side of how walking so much was good to him because of how God's Alibi worked - So yeah, I guess that today I just ended up coming to the Park today. Wasn't expecting to see you though. Did you come to Tokyo just to chill for a bit?Notes: ---Words: 545.Tags: Jasmine Noir

Let's unwrite these pages And replace them with our own words
"Comes with the territory," Jasmine replied, a short snort accompanying her words.
As opposed to Ryuusei, Jasmine was leaning backwards, fully resting her frame against the backrest of the bench. The guitar was on her lap as her fingers still ran along the strings, her mind innately forcing her to practice notes without her even realizing it. It was strange even to her how stubborn and how much of a hard worker she was. If she set her mind to it, Jasmine would do something regardless of all the naysayers - which, luckily, there weren't any in this particular case.
"Yeah, I know. Though I prefer to just do it the old fashioned way. Y'know, go through the motions at my own pace without rushing anything. In my experience the natural way is the most efficient way. Not the fastest nor is it always possible, but it's the best one," Jasmine responded, possibly shedding some light on how she had improved her skills in the many things she, too, was knowledgeable in. Even her skills with her quirk, while not always, were acquired through hard work and repetition. She didn't always get the chance to train at her own pace - far too often she had to pick it up so she could get stronger for one reason or another - but it was what she ultimately preferred to do.
Jasmine remained silent as Ryuusei spoke. The sister part came as news to the lioness; Rin had never actually spoken about it. Likely out of respect for Ryuusei, which she couldn't blame her for nor did the blonde actually ever pry. Far too often it felt like it wasn't her place to ask questions about it.
"Yeah, walks can help clear the brain. It's not the same but that's part of the reason why I go on evening jogs after a long day. Music in my ear and the 'open road' helps me get my thoughts together," the girl explained, nodding to the male's words as she did so.
"Well... I should actually be in the process of moving my stuff over from Musutafu to Tokyo," Jasmine explained as she rubbed the back of her head. "I work at a tattoo shop back there and, well, the place sort of kind of got bought out and I was hired by this new place opening up in Tokyo. It'll be good, though. No longer an apprentice and all that. Rather I'll have my own gig. It's pretty cool to think about," Jasmine smiled, thinking of all the times she's spent skulking around that one tattoo shop back in New York which she had grown to call home at one certain point in her life. It was strange to think that now she'd have something like that again. Heck, maybe she'd even be able to have somebody other than her call that place home.
"Though, uhh..." she then began, watching some kids play on the opposite corner of the park. They were siblings, by the looks of it. The mother was sitting on a bench nearby, chuckling at the father's antics as he played villain to the superheroes of his two sons. "Your sister... what happened? If you don't mind me asking." Jasmine was never one to mince words nor did she let social perceptions slow her curiosity or how she said things. But with Ryuusei... well, suffice it to say his particular case was a little different. Maybe it was because he was close to Rin. Or maybe it was because Jaz had poked her nose far too much already. She wouldn't be able to tell you, really. But what she could say was that the curiosity and, on some level - care, was genuine.

You don't need a dream or even a tomorrow Just live
I respect that, he said, replying to Jasmine's comments about doing things in the old fashion/natural way before he stated the reason as to why he was in Tokyo. Jasmine Noir was silent while Ryuusei spoke. However - and since he wasn't looking at the blonde girl - Ryuusei couldn't tell if that silence was accompanied by the expression of someone who already knew that information or that was caught off-guard by it. It didn't really matter though. But she did respond to it - well, at least in part. It seemed that Jaz also enjoyed the cathartic experience that a simple walk can have. Ryuu added to it. I also meditate a lot, I picked it up from my father. It's pretty good for me, if you haven't done you should try it once, he said. It was after this short comment that he, in turn, asked Rinkusu's girlfriend what she was doing in the heart of Tokyo. As the girl explained, she was going to start working in a tattoo shop situated in the city and, because of that, was probably moving there. It was funny to think how they were all growing up so fast. Ryuusei with his side job at The Fourth Corner, Rinkusu helping at the Hospital, Jasmine persuing the dream of using bodies as canvas just like hers was... it really put things into perspective, showing that time was, indeed, moving fast. So you're moving out of the dorms? That's dope - he started by saying - You'll have to give me the address of the shop some day. Unlike you I still don't have any tattoos but I want to get some... And if I am to let someone ink my body then I'll be glad if that someone is you, he finished, voicing his genuine emotions even if his voice might not be the greatest indicator of it. After this topic of conversation, Jasmine went back for another one... that one. Ryuusei was looking in the same direction she had her eyes on: the two kids, male and female, playing together and with their parents. The world could really be poetic, sometimes cruelly. He didn't take Jasmine's curiosity in a bad way, by the contrary: afterall, he had been the one to first talk about his sister. It just felt... weird. An out of the body sensation. He knew he had lived this experience, but at the same time it felt like a fantasy he had dreamed about. What happened... he mumbled, organizing his thoughts while looking ahead, leaning forward with his arms supported on his knees. Yoruhi and Rinkusu had heard about it. Yoru little pieces of information that came from Ryuuseis mouth, Rin mostly through Ryuusei's parents, but Ryuusei himself never voiced the entire story in detail to no one... ever. Perhaps he needed to. For some reason, and despite not being friends with Jasmine like he was with Rin and Yoru, it felt the time was right.
Yasu was... is Quirkless. But she just had this pureness in her that made her want to protect everyone, even if only with her smile, you know? She... she's like the sun, keeping everyone warm... Even when the night comes you know the sun will shine again... That's how she was like. And then this one night came and... and it's been dark ever since.
Ryuusei was looking at the kids. The boy had fell down and was crying, but, even before the parents had a chance to come to him, the sister was patting him on the head, extending her hand to help him up and show him that everything was alright. While Ryuu talked, some true emotion could be felt... maybe for the first time since Jasmine knew him, it could be seen that there was something underneath all the ice.
It was almost three years ago. I was thirteen at the time, she was twenty. My parents were out and we were the only ones at home. Two men came in... Quirkers. I... I didn't know what to do, my body shut down, but Yasu, she...
He exhaled. The two kids were back again playing with their father, the little girl pretending to attack him while the young boy cheered her on.
... she fought them... She fought them to protect me. And while she did that I was just curled up in a corner, watching, doing nothing. She screamed, you know? Asked me to run or to call someone, but... My legs didn't work, I... I couldn't do it. There was so much blood at the end... She had done it, she defeated the two men with Quirks, but at what cost? And at who's fault?
The sense of blame that Ryuusei put on himself was pretty diificult to hide.
When it ended I still couldn't move. My parents returned a couple of hours later to find two men on the ground alongside my sister, with me some feet behind and with no injuries. I think those hours were what made her fall into a coma, I'm pretty sure of it... Anyway, the police and ambulance were called, my sister taken to the Tokyo Hospital and the two men arrested.
The father was now on the ground, having been defeated by his daughter. The little girl and her brother were now jumping on top of him, initiating a final offense of cuddles and tickles. He looked at Jasmine, having now finished telling what had happened to his sister, his eyes shining.
So yeah, that's what happened., he said with a slight smile.
The sun was shining, but it now felt like rain was coming.

Let's unwrite these pages And replace them with our own words
"Thank you," Jasmine said, grinning up at Ryuusei. She figured he'd be more of the old fashioned type himself considering how much the guy liked walking, or so Rin had told her once or twice in the past. "Oh, naw. I'm still staying in the dorms. I used to work at this tattoo shop back in Musutafu. BlackSun Tattoos? It was a part-time gig where I was not much more than an apprentice, really. Gotta start somewhere though, right? It helped get my name out in the Tokyo area though and before I knew it I got invited to this new place that's opening up. When they told me I'd be the master of my own craft, so to speak, I figured I might as well try. Plus I double as a bouncer there on the weekends so it helps generate some extra Benjamins. Or, well, Yen, I guess." "Oh, hey. Happy to hear that," Jasmine said, genuinely happy that he'd say something like that. There was just something about people choosing a tattoo artist's craft over another artist that always had a rather profound effect on said artist. The mere idea that Ryuusei would choose her art over the many artists out there was one hell of a compliment, especially with how much trust went into something like this. Tattoos could be removed, of course, but they still held that permanency feel to them which they will probably never lose. The idea that Ryuusei wanted her art on his skin for the rest of his life was definitely something she didn't take for granted. "I'd be honored to get you some ink going. Let me know whenever you feel up to it, we can talk designs and stuff." And then... then Jasmine realized she had tripped over something she probably should've have. The visible shift in Ryuusei was hard not to notice as he delved deep into his memories. At one point the lioness had even wanted to apologize for asking but... the male was willing to tell her more and she wasn't about to disrespect his trust in her nor the willingness to share. The girl had stayed quiet as she listened, her eyes firmly glued on the family that was playing nearby. Somehow, Jasmine was able to visualize the scene almost as if she was there. Ryuusei's sister and Ryuusei together; she could see them during happier times. Talking, smiling, laughing. Much like Michael and herself used to. It felt like the sun was always on them, surrounding them with warmth that their feelings mirrored perfectly. ...until it all came crashing down. Jasmine brought her hands together and rested them on her thighs as she continued to listen. Despite coming off as brutish as she so often did, Jasmine was more of an empath than most realized. She could feel the pain in Ryuusei's words regardless of how much he tried to hide it. You couldn't hide something like this. He was... being sincere. She hadn't known him much prior the Semper Fi incident, but even then he'd been pretty distant and closed off. After Semper Fi, Ryuu had gotten even colder. Now was likely the first time Jasmine had felt anything resembling emotion come from him and to her it was leaking out in droves. He really must love her... she thought, and that thought alone made her own heart ache. When Ryuusei finished his story, Jasmine could only remain quiet. Her mind was at a loss for words, desperately trying to figure out what to say in response to something like this. Talking about loved ones was... complicated. Especially in situations like this when there's nobody you can blame for the disaster that had befallen them other than yourself. Suddenly, though, Jasmine raised her head and glanced at the blue sky above, her expression thoughtful, almost... nostalgic. Jasmine's OST: Remembrance
"Y'know, I... back home, in New York? I had a uh... what you could call a brother, I think. At least I've never considered him anything less than that," the blonde lioness began, her words sounding somewhat solemn as she drifted deep into her own memories, recalling things that now felt like a faraway dream. "I'll spare you the story of my childhood but suffice it to say there were some... dark times. He found me, y'know? Michael. He, uhm... when I had been abandoned by the person who had been raising me, I was pretty much left homeless. A dumb eleven-year-old girl with a quirk against the streets of one of the biggest anti-quirk cities in the world."
"He found me. Saved me, really. I don't think I'd be here if it weren't for him. From that time I don't think I've spent even one day away from him. He was like the leader of our little rag-tag group of delinquents with nowhere to go. He gave us a home. Clothes. Food... love. The love of what I can only imagine would be the love of an older brother. I can't really begin to explain to you how much he meant to me." A small smile came over the blonde lioness as images from the past resurfaced in her mind. Images that sometimes haunted her were now something that she could look back on with a childish nostalgia. As sad as that made her, she could feel happy about them again.
But it was that key word in the past tense. Meant.
"I think it was... September. When I heard the news," Jasmine paused for a little while as she kept staring at the clouds above. If Ryuu looked closely, he could probably notice how her lilac irises glistened, even if only for the briefest of moments. "One of my friends had called me. Another anti-quirker riot had broken out on the streets. Nothing out of the ordinary, really, it's just... Michael was right in the middle of it. There was a kid that had been attacked. Small thing, maybe... oh, I don't know. Seven or eight years old. Yeah, he... the kid got away. Michael... didn't."
"It was... I'm not sure what I felt. It was like a huge part of me had been ripped out and stomped on. I felt like I couldn't live without it and I... I blamed myself. For all of it. For his death. For not being there to help him. To save him. I thought that... maybe, had I never gone to Yuuei, I would've been able to be there, you know? To save him. Hell, to keep him from going in the first place. The thought kept haunting me. I couldn't sleep and when I did it kept coming to me in the form of nightmares. Over and over. Over and over. Always. Like some kind of mantra." The lioness lowered her head, blonde locks falling over her face and eyes. "You're not good enough. You weren't there. You left him. It's your fault. You let your family die. They're dead and it's because of you."
"I felt like that for months. Always blaming myself for it. I don't think I'll ever stop blaming myself for it, honestly. The what if I had been there thought haunts me to this day, every day. And I don't think it'll ever go away, but..." she paused. It was a long pause. A heavy one. Jasmine was collecting her thoughts, taking her sweet time to do so knowing Ryuusei wouldn't interrupt her. Hell, on some level she wished he did. Would've made things easier.
Eventually, she smiled. Her head raised, bright lilac eyes staring at the family again, "I... I know he's not blaming me for it. Honestly I'm a dumbass for feeling like it's my fault. I'm half across the world, for Christ's sake. But, to be honest with you? I think even had I been in the City that time and it still would've happened, I don't think he would've blamed me either. It's just... we can never blame someone we truly love. I know if the situations were reversed, I wouldn't have blamed him either."
Eventually, Jasmine turned to Ryuusei, "I am fully aware that our situations are entirely different and you have a different weight on your shoulders from mine... but I still think I understand where you're coming from and the pain you feel. Just... keep in mind what I said.
