A bar seemed like a strange place for a fifteen year old boy to work, even to Takumi, but he told himself that it wasn't all that different from what he did when he helped his dad out back home. It wasn't like a bar was really all that different than a cafe when one really looked at the big picture, aside from maybe a bar having more activity later in the evening and a cafe having more activity in the earlier hours, but Takumi could recall having busy nights when he closed as well. Takumi knew how to make practically any fancy gourmet coffee beverage, so if one asked him he would say he had the basic skills that a bartender needed and that all he would really need was to just learn a new language of beverages. Even if one wanted to argue that being a bartender required more social skills in order to connect with the customers, one of the best part of Takumi's time spent in the cafe was getting to know all the customers and establish friendly relationships with them all, whether they were local regulars or visitors just passing through.
After seeing the advertisement put up by The Fourth Corner, Takumi saved all the information in a note on his phone and then put in the listed address into his navigation app. Before he left his room, the boy would make sure to take a good look at himself and decided that he needed to at least try to look more professional before heading out. He didn't have a pair of shoes nicer than the ones that were part of his standard student uniform, so they remained a staple but Takumi would still make sure to put on a nice pair of pants and a clean, ironed, white button-down shirt. One look in the mirror and he felt instant disappointment at the realization that he had just put on his entire school uniform minus the jacket.
...I guess I don't have anything nicer
Feeling sad that he had no other nice clothes, Takumi tried his best to round out the outfit with a gray cardigan before leaving his room and heading downstairs. He was still feeling a bit nervous about navigating the Yuuei campus in general, but luckily finding the front entrance was much easier than any niche building that he might want to find later. With the confidence built up by reaching the main street with little problems, Takumi felt ready when he pulled out his phone and opened up the navigation app with the bar's address already loaded in.
After reaching the end of the block, crossing the street, and getting about halfway down the next, Takumi's confidence already started crumbling and he panicked. Looking out towards the street, Takumi slowly walked to the edge of the sidewalk while waving his arm out and above his head, a smile of relief showing on his face when a taxi pulled up to him. As Takumi ducked down and slid into the back seat of the cab, he would be sure to close the door and start pulling his seat belt across his chest, making sure he heard and felt that firm *CLICK* being secured before he looked up to the driver.
Hi. Can I go, uhhh, here, please? Takumi held out his phone and showed the driver the address, still typed out in the destination text window of his app. When Takumi realized that he was essentially just showing the driver that he couldn't figure out how to find the location on his own, even with an advanced GPS, he felt embarrassed and his face displayed a pinker hue for a minute.
The driver didn't seem to care, simply giving Takumi a flat toned "okay," and pulling back out onto the main road. The drive wouldn't take too long; Takumi didn't look at the time or keep track of time but it felt like about five minutes to him, thankfully traffic was flowing smoothly. After being let out, the boy handed the fare to the driver and watched the taxi drive away before turning around to walk up to the entrance of The Fourth Corner.
Takumi would walk with his head and shoulders leaned in more than a person would normally walk, his head peeking and probing around the area as he stepped inside the bar and tried to get a good idea of what the place was like. Not wanting to waste any time and give off the impression that he was too shy or afraid of acting with purpose by just awkwardly standing around, a tip he learned from a video on uTube when looking up tips about interviewing for jobs, Takumi walked up to the bar with a fake projection of confidence in his face and stride, even if the slight furrow of his brow may have given himself away and implied nervousness.
Hi, I'm here to ask about a job opening here. Is there anyone I should talk to that's working today? Takumi would ask whomever was standing behind the bar whenever he would be given attention, or whomever was around if the place was dead and nobody was working the bar at the moment. He didn't know why his heart was pounding more than usual, since not getting a job would be that big a deal. He didn't NEED the job, but just wanted to earn some extra money so that he could buy things without asking his parents whom were already paying his tuition. If this didn't pan out then finding a job somewhere else shouldn't have been too difficult. Still, the quickened pace of his heart had Takumi feeling almost confused at himself when he noticed how fast it was.
No. Takumi needed to not be nervous. He knew it when the thought crossed his mind, but he couldn't let the intimidation of an interview scare him off, even if he had never had to interview for a job before in his life. He knew how to do this job, and he needed to be ready to convince whomever he spoked to about working here that he was up to snuff. Still, no matter how much he tried to convince himself to relax, that this would be easy, and that the stakes weren't all that high, Takumi still felt his heart pounding away with the force and speed of a high level boxer going to town on a speed bag.

sometimes you want to go WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME
Good things came to those who waited. Twas an adage that Delta had never fully understood nor accepted, for it seemed highly impractical to the active woman. How was one supposed to achieve anything by simply expecting it to fall upon her doorstep? It was simply asinine and immature to think so. Instead, Delta had a much more... Active approach. Such an approach was also applied to her employment methods, and when she wasn't out looking for young, fresh talent to populate her establishment, the woman was leaving around advertisements to draw in these potential workers to their brand new home under her four arms! Well, or maybe, just a stable and paying job. Of course, not many people were that set on working in a bar in one of the town's shadier areas, but Delta was certain that any of these teens who were interested would have to be the most interesting of them anyway. The kind who would be willing to forego the chance to work at a simple corner store, in favour of finding themselves fulfilling employment within the most magnificent and warm-hearted bar on her block! As far as Delta Ivey was concerned, anyway. After leaving her advertisements wherever she could - mostly online - the four-armed woman simply put those concerns in the back of her mind until they were relevant. Alas, young people didn't exactly come flooding in, looking for casual work, but Delta remained faithful that The Fourth Corner's prestige and image would be enough to attract and interested parties. That was the point at which she waited, with all the faith that good things would come to her this year, in spite of ending in a cursed digit... Nonetheless, she waited, and went about her duties. It was the late afternoon at the Fourth Corner, starting to grow a bit busier as happy hour approached, and Delta was tending to all her colorful guests as always. The Fourth Corner was extremely quirk friendly, as one might expect, so the clientele never failed to be captivating. As mutations and normals entered and took their seats, mostly those who'd escaped early from work or finished their tertiary studies for the day, a new arrival would pique Delta's interest not because of any peculiarities in his appearance, but instead, in spite of a lack of any peculiarities. Her amber eye went to work inspecting this newcomer, looking over the obviously young lad and catching on to his put-on confidence. Such a young, well-dressed lad, coming into her bar and walking around with such assuredness in his step could only really indicate a couple of things. Firstly, he could be under the legal drinking age, and was about to try his best to act older than he actually was in order to score himself a drink. Secondly, he was there for a job interview. It wasn't hard for an adult to spot a young, faux-confident job-seeker, as it was a point that many of them had been at through their lives. Delta herself had been subject to interviews to even start at working at this bar for proper pay - and her adoptive father had owned the bloody place! Pushing that memory aside, Delta would smile lightly at the boy as he approached, as she would with any customer, but deep down was anticipating his words with glee. The four-armed woman would just finish passing down a drink to one of her clientele, followed by a loud "Thanks, Mama-san!", before giving her full attention to the boy. Dressed in her flowing garb, her four arms leaned against the counter, that lone amber eye watching over him, at the very least it wouldn't be difficult for Takumi to keep his eyes on the attention-grabbing woman. Once Takumi approached, it wasn't hard to see the intriguing light up in Delta's eye at his question. He'd come prepared, a handsome young lad that already passed one of the unwritten criteria Delta had. He was, obviously, trying to seem confident as any job-seeker would have, but fortunately, the four-armed woman was quite used to keeping people comfortable with her own manner. "Ah, if you need someone to speak to, that would be yours truly~" Delta proclaimed, gesturing to herself with one of her four arms, while extending an another forwards for a handshake. "Delta Ivey, owner of the Fourth Corner. Your interviewer, so please, do not worry too much~" She said with a hum. After recieving his name and shaking his hand, Delta had to actually figure out what to do for an interview, but figured that the best method was just the one she knew best when it came to getting to know people. "Let's conduct it here, no?" This way, she could multitask and still work if need be, plus, it gave her a chance to still any nerves the interviewee might have. "Care for a drink, dear? We have sodas and the like, of course, something to keep you refreshed for any questions~" Delta offered. Best to treat this boy like a guest, she thought, as that was the way she usually got familiar with others.

When Takumi came into The Fourth Corner in order to seek out his interview, he would be met with a presence that seemed to emanate a strangely whimsical confidence, much like that of someone whom felt completely at home in any situation. Behind the bar was a woman, a quirker just like Takumi, albeit her quirk was very noticeable right away unlike Takumi. Despite all the vibrant and strange quirks that Takumi had encountered in his life, and the especially concentrated assortment that he encountered at Yuuei, this woman still seemed so much different than anyone else at first glance. She had four arms, an obvious and gruesome scar across where her right eye presumably used to be; she was downright... well, beautiful to be quite honest. It really shouldn't have come as a surprise to him that establishments like this employed attractive people, it was actually a staple of the industry as far as he could tell, but the initial sighting of this woman still stunned Takumi for a brief moment.
After walking up and asking about a job opening, the woman cheerfully boasted that she was the one whom Takumi would need to speak to for his interview. The woman quickly introduced herself as Delta Ivey, along with her position as the owner of The Fourth Corner, but kept an incredibly playful demeanor that really helped Takumi stay relaxed despite how nervous he was for this. Takumi wasn't sure if Delta's next decision was made in an attempt to keep their meeting more casual for some unknown reason, or if she just needed to be in the area to help serve customers (he didn't see anyone else around that seemed to be working for her), but regardless of her logic, she decided to conduct the interview right there.
Given the locale of where he was applying to work, and the fact that Delta was technically still tending bar, Takumi decided to gently hop up onto one of the stools as she offered him a drink. Just some water is fine, please and thank you... Takumi presented Delta a friendly smile with his response to her offer, choosing to forego any soda for the time being. If anything he would prefer a cup of coffee, but he wasn't sure if a bar like this served coffee in the first place and even if it did, he didn't want to impose and have her go out of her way to brew some fresh just for him.
Sitting across the bar from Delta, as she probably tried to quickly pour him a glass of water, Takumi began to feel deeply self aware of the situation he was in and how very possible rejection might be. His right foot would quickly begin shaking, the ball of the foot planted either on the ground or a bracing ring around the legs of the stool depending on how high up the seat was, with his knee pumping up and down in rapid, short, piston motions while his upper half remained relatively still, albeit likely not doing a good job of passing off a calm energy.
So, uhh... I'll just be completely honest. I've never actually done this before... Interviewed for a job, I mean. I've served customers before, but yeah... So, I'm sorry if I seem nervous or anything like that.
Despite how clearly nervous Takumi sounded as he tried to voice a preemptive disclaimer before Delta began the actual interview, he was still somehow able to manage speaking in a friendly tone of voice and through a smile, even if the smile itself still looked uneasy. Part of him really wanted to keep talking about serving customers and build off of his comment just a second ago, but he felt as if it might seem like he was pushing too hard, or being too forward, and that it might be off putting. Hopefully the glass of water would help calm his nerves, or at least moisten up his mouth and throat which was now beginning to feel drier and drier after he rattled off his shaky spiel.
Maybe Delta wouldn't judge him so harshly right now, with how nervous he was acting. At least he wasn't sweating or stumbling over his words or anything like that. If only she could have been a customer at his dad's cafe back home, then she could see that he would be a good person to hire for sure!

sometimes you want to go WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME
It wasn't exactly hard to spot the young lad's nervousness, the anxiety and unease that came with a job interview. Something any adult was familiar with, Delta herself included. Perhaps in his case, there were other factors exacerbating it... This wasn't exactly a typical job he was applying for, after all. He, a high school student, was seeking employment at a bar of all places. Though it was entirely legal, thanks to Japan's loose alcohol service regulations, it wasn't exactly a common work environment for those his age. Perhaps he was more ambitious than his peers, yet with that ambition still came risks with this unfamiliar and strange environment. Of course, the equally strang Delta Ivey didn't help much with that. Four arms were fairly basic in the world of Quirks classified under the staple of 'mutation', but Delta had quite a few other features that only exacerbated her exotic appearance. She hoped it would be less of a burden on the already anxious boy, and instead show him that he had little to worry about when the first focus of people's attention was right there anyway. That, along with her naturally affable demeanor, would hopefully not hide away his merits behind his nervousness. Or so the amber-eyed woman hoped. Perhaps some hydration would aid, as the young boy requested just a glass of water to soothe. "Right away, my dear~" Making full use of her excess of appendages, Delta would be filling a glass full of water right away, while one of her other hands fetched some ice to keep it cold. In a matter of moments, she was setting the glass of cool liquid before Takumi, nodding lightly with a warm smile. Even to her interviewees, she had to keep up that friendly nature that was so ingrained in her position. In spite of her efforts, it seemed Takumi was still plenty nervous about the whole thing, and he had fair reason to. By his own admission, he hadn't actually interviewed for a job before - which wasn't too surprising, given he looked to be a student. However, he was fortunate enough to have served customers before, yet apparently not a job he'd been interviewed for. A family business, perhaps? Something for Delta to pry into as she got to know the boy better. In spite of his nerves, he remained composed, spurring Delta on to unearth whatever was being concealed by his anxieties. First of all, his name would be lovely to have. "Ah, don't worry at all, Mr..." Delta left a pause for him to give his name, trying to subtle urge him to give it without bringing attention to the fact that he'd got to. She'd continue on quickly, trying not to intensify his nerves. "I'm sure you'll find my interview quite comfortable. Perk of the job, I know how to keep people at ease. Besides, even if you haven't been interviewed before, you said you have experience in this field?"Delta herself was mostly playing this interview by ear, trying to determine what his skillset was and how it might be utilized. More carefree than your usual manager, Delta wasn't particularly concerned with the formalities. Her keen sense for people was what she relied on, moreso than any arbitrary questions.

With his prompted request for a simple glass of water, Takumi remained in this awkwardly stiff, seated position while his leg anxiously pumped away beneath the obscurity of the bar that separated Delta from himself. He would quickly swivel his head around, stealing some extra glances of the bar's interior for a moment before turning back to look at Delta seamlessly utilizing all four of her arms to smoothly pour the water into a glass and add some ice to keep it chilled. The cool beverage would be handed off with a welcoming, soothing smile which, unbeknownst to Delta, would slow down the pacing of Takumi's piston leg pumping from a death metal pace down to that of a fun classic rock song. Takumi would shift his arm inward to clutch the glass, his fingers feeling the crispy cold glass combined with the tiny beads of condensation as his grip tightened, lifting the glass only an inch before looking back up at Delta.
Thank you!
Once Takumi remembered to properly voice his gratitude for Delta's hospitality, he proceeded to actually take a sip from the glass, the cool water smoothly moistening his previously drying mouth and helping his throat feel like he wasn't inhaling sand. As he drank the water and placed the glass back down onto the bar, Takumi began to feel more relaxed with the dry mouth and throat being remedied plus the cold water giving him a mild "wake-up" effect. With the social niceties out of the way, Delta tried to move things along and progress towards the actual interview portion of their encounter. When she tried to verbally ease Takumi's nerves, he caught onto Delta's prolonged trail off, attempting to elicit a name. Oh, it's Takumi Fujimoto.
Takumi would keep his face relatively neutral while nodding slightly, as if to emulate a fraction of a bow, as he provided a name for Delta. After volunteering the information, Delta was quick to keep the conversation going and took the opportunity to reassure the boy that there was nothing to worry about and that the interview wouldn't be too rough, going so far as to say that her own experience in this line of work helped her develop good enough social skills to keep people comfortable. He understood what she meant, Takumi also having a knack for connecting with most people, even strangers, and knowing how to help people feel more comfortable in awkward situations, thanks in part to his own experience in food service.
Oh, yeah... My family runs a cafe in my hometown, and I always helped my dad with the work whenever I wasn't in school. It was a small town but we had a lot of tourism, so we would get lots of people coming and going all the time. Takumi nodded along as he summarized his work experience, almost suggesting through his body language for Delta to nod along and subconsciously elicit agreement from her, a habit he developed long ago and didn't even think about anymore. I always helped with anything, from serving the customers and chatting with them to making the drinks. My dad is kind of a coffee nut so he basically ingrained everything there is to know about it in my head from a young age.
Takumi cautiously chuckled as he finished giving a few more details of his time spent working for his father in the family business. He knew that making lattes and cappuccinos was very different from mixing cocktails, but there were definitely some skills that could translate well and be helpful if Delta was to hire him. I know coffee and cocktails are different, but I'm still willing to work hard and learn. I know it's easy to just say things like this, but I really do like working with people and serving them...
Takumi would grasp his cup of water once more and bring it up to his mouth once more, taking in another meager sip after he finished speaking, more to help keep his mouth and throat feeling smooth instead of drying up again rather than to keep himself hydrated. It was probably a good thing he didn't drink a lot of coffee before coming over for the interview, otherwise the extra energy might have had him in a panic and caffeine fueled fast word volley every time he spoke. His leg, at this point, was still softly pumping like a piston although it was even slower than before, moving up and down like a drummer keeping a steady bass pulse of quarter notes at around 100 beats per minutes.

sometimes you want to go WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME
Takumi Fujimoto, was apparently his name. Delta was tempted to ask it was written, as the name itself didn't really tell her much about him. Had she been expecting something more interesting? No, not really, but it didn't hurt to have some more exotic features for the four-armed bartender to get excited about. Then again, this was about him and his potential employment, not her. He still seemed nervous, but that cold glass of water managed to quench some of the flames of unease, or so it seemed. Delta wasn't really aware of how nerve-wracking an interview from a complete stranger could be, so she was - either fortunately or unfortunately - not able to discern if Takumi was handling it well or not, compared to how anyone else would! After all, when she'd gotten her current and only employment all those years ago, Delta had been a bit more familiar with her interviewer at the time. Takumi wasn't quite afforded the same leisure, instead being questioned by someone as frankly exotic as Delta Ivey. It was a good thing Delta knew how to deal with those in a bit of a mental bind, however, and Takumi, fortunately, did not forget many of his graces throughout the interview, remaining somewhat composed and polite on the surface. A good trait for a barman to have. As was experience, which Takumi detailed following Delta's question. The amber-eyed woman raised one hand to her chin, keeping her others busy with cleaning glasses as she listened to what the boy had to offer in terms of prior expertise in the field. As Delta could have guessed by his lack of interviewing experience, Takumi Fujimoto had worked in his family business before. Not exactly something uncommon, but still useful experience nonetheless. Moreover, the way he described how busy it could be might prepare him for the rushes the bar occasionally got. Having prior experience with tourists was also a neat skill to have. After all, the people who passed through the Fourth Corner tended to be more exotic than any foreigner or traveler. Moreover, as Takumi talked about all this, there was greater confidence to his demeanor, a persuasion that Delta appreciated. He could keep himself from cracking under anxiety, that was good. So many observations were made with even that lone eye of hers, and Delta couldn't help but smile lightly to herself as she nodded along, becoming quite pleased with this potential candidate of hers. The extras kept on coming too, with him knowing how to make coffee and being able to hold down conversations with customers. Indeed, there were plenty of skills that translated well to working in the Fourth Corner, such that when he proclaimed his willingness to learn, Delta believed him. As did she believe his reason for wanting the job. "I completely understand, my dear. It's such a delight to chatter and serve customers, to have them be more than just a tip, hm?" Delta said in agreement, gesturing widely with her free hand. He was doing well, so far. "You've certainly got plenty of experience that will translate, my dear~ So we don't need to worry too much about that." With his ability to talk to people, and experience in drink service before, he'd make a fine addition to her roster. "If we find the job terms agreeable, I'm sure you'll make a fine barback~" Delta declared, already having evidently thought on his role. However, that was up in the air, until she confirmed a few more things. "Ah, but there's something else to remind you of, first. Regarding your working schedule~" Delta stretched out her arms, holding up two of her hands to gesture as she spoke. "I'm sure you're a full-time student, yes? Well, you should know, that some late hours might be required of you at times, here~ Not terribly late, but enough to make you aware, and confirm that it aligns with your schedule~" Always an important thing for Delta to make clear to her youth employees. Given how demanding high school could be - not that Delta knew from any experience, just the word of others - it was reasonable to make sure they could work that late. Plus, curfews, if they had those in place. 0000 WORDS |

The longer that Takumi sat there and spoke to Delta, the more that he actually got to speak about his own personal experience in the service industry. Being able to fall back into talking about something so familiar and comfortable for him, along with Delta's seemingly effortless ability to create a welcoming atmosphere around her, helped Takumi relax during this impromptu interview and just generally feel more comfortable in his own skin. The cold glass of water worked wonders as well, but a refreshing glass of water was always welcomed and often overlooked by so many people that forget to hydrate or just choose to drink sugary soda beverages often instead.
It was an interesting spectacle for Takumi, witnessing Delta continue to operate all four of her arms independently, yet perfectly coordinated, all at the same time. It wasn't necessarily weird for him, given that there were a few quirkers back in his hometown, albeit still in the minority, along with the loads and loads of kids with very obvious quirks he encountered once he arrived at Yuuei Academy. All that aside, and even with the understanding that with a quirk like her's Delta had learned to use all her arms and been using them like that all her life, Takumi was still impressed by what he saw. Part of him pondered just how amazing of a drummer she could be if the woman decided to take up then instrument, or perhaps she had a similar idea in the past and already could play.
To Takumi's delight and further relief, Delta displayed a warm appreciation for his perspective on working a job where he was essentially forced to socialize with dozens of strangers everyday, and how he saw it as a fun opportunity to establish new connections and build friendships. Since the first moment that he interacted with her, Delta came off as someone with a real love for people and socializing, an extrovert in every sense of the word. Takumi was definitely a more reserved person but he felt that finding enjoyment in connecting with others was definitely something they had in common. Before Takumi could respond to the woman's comments on the matter, she moved onto a potential job offer as a barback. He wasn't exactly familiar with the terminology specific to this business, but he figured that Delta was essentially offering him a position that was more than likely an "assistant bartender" of some sort.
Barback? Yeah, I can do that...
Delta would go on to voice other concerns regarding Takumi's possible employment at The Fourth Corner, his late evening availability. Takumi was a student and his studies would need to take priority over nearly anything else if he was going to succeed at Yuuei, but that rule of thumb could apply for any student at any school really. Delta was aware of this, as well as the fact that some school aged kids also had curfews, and wanted to make sure that there would be no scheduling conflicts between his student life and job.
"Uhh... I don't think so? I mean, I'm a bit of a night owl so I don't mind working late at all. So, if that's an issue then I think we're all good, or at least I am...
Takumi smiled warmly towards Delta as he voiced his acceptance of the fact that working for her would require him to be there for shifts later in the evening. After all, it made sense that he would be working late shifts at any job he accepted, given that as a student he would be in classes from the early morning into the afternoon. On top of that, the place WAS a bar which was primarily patronized by nightlife culture in general.
