Oh, my, god, walking alone drinking coffee is SOOOO 2030…
Jack chuckled a bit to himself as he made that little joke thought in his head, making a bit of fun at how quickly trends change, or how often people would actually say stuff like that back in America. Of course, he didn’t really know how often people in Japan say stuff like that, considering that he was still learning how to speak the language, which was much easier said than done.
He sat on a seat in a train heading towards Musutafu, where U.A. was located, sipping a bit of iced coffee and messing around on his phone, his furred hood up and his tail wrapped around his waist like a belt. He had small little bandages all over his hands and his face, and even more all over his body under his clothes, courtesy of his transformation training. After a couple weeks straight of said training, the cuts that would appear as he reverted took a lot longer than usual to close up, which was a bit of a red flag for the small white haired boy.
As such, he decided that it might be a good idea to take a day or two off, to at least let his fatigue wear off. During this time, he decided it would be a good idea to scope out his potential future school, just to see what it was like. Of course, this would probably do little to ease his anxiety about enrolling into the prestigious school , as it’s enrollment date drew closer and closer. The mere thought of it made Jack’s heart race a bit faster, and made his palms a bit sweaty. He shook the thought aside as he took a couple of deep breaths, trying to re-compose himself.
He noticed a couple of people looking over at him as he did so, and it took a lot of willpower not to smile nervously, showing off his rather sharp teeth, but his managed with just a small smile and wave. It seemed to work, at least, the people quickly returning to their own businesses. He mentally scolded himself for that, honestly hating how shy he could get around people, not only because of his own anxiety, but he didn’t really want people seeing his more draconic traits. The idea truly mortified him, even though he knew that he would eventually have to come out more about it.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to be more open, it just that, well...he really couldn’t. Or, rather, it was extremely hard to. Ever since that incident he had as a boy, where he was almost murdered...that night stuck to the back of Jack’s mind. It reminded him of just how bad people could really get, and it gave him a bit of trust issues when it came to people. Especially when it came to strangers. It was a miracle that he could even go out in public like this at all.
Nonetheless, he simply looked down at his phone, playing some stupid Dragon Ball gacha game that had been out for a while. ”No, I already have this Frieza, I think...do I even need any more Vegetas…?” he muttered under his breath, hardly even paying attention. It wasn’t uncommon for him to do this, and it was probably only a matter of time someone suddenly sat by him and scared the daylights out of him. Who knows, maybe he’ll get lucky for once.
Or not, given his usual luck, but hey, who’s counting?

DING-DONG! DING-DONG!
Airi's slumber was disturbed by the sound of a most horrible bell. It rang and rang until it ceased, stopped by a hard slap courtesy of Airi's hand. Six a.m. She did not enjoy waking up so early on the weekend, but she had to. It was moving time and her destination for today, U.A. Highschool. She needed to get ready and leave earlier because her journey was going to take about six hours and would involve a lot of transferring and some walking. However, she could definitely get some sleep later on. It was time to get started and Airi hopped out of bed and got to work.
Undress, it's shower time! Make sure to rub with soap vigorously! Next, time to brush the teeth and floss until they're squeaky clean. Put on the clothes she picked out last night! Breakfast time! Make sure to clean dishes! Next, finish packing everything! Finally, water the plants and leave the house, but don't forget to leave the keys under the mat! Airi was finally ready.
As she made her way, pulling her luggage behind her, to the train station, Airi silently said her goodbyes to all the places she'd had grown to love. She had lived her entire life until then here in Karatsu and it was bittersweet to bid adieu to all those familiar faces and places. Still, it wasn't as if she would never return. She would come back during all the breaks she could, not only to visit her sister who she'd miss dearly and pay respects to her late father but also to come back and reminisce about all the good times she had here.
Upon arriving at Karatsu Station, Airi bought her ticket and waited a few minutes before boarding the first train that came on the Chikuhi Line. It was going to to be two hours before she needed to transfer, so for now, she could pretty much relax. Airi pulled out her phone, plugged in her headphones and started listening to her favorite music.
Her playlist consisted of very old Japanese pop music from the 1980s, jazz pieces and occasionally, Korean pop songs from the 2010s and 2020s. The latter was definitely a guilty pleasure for her, but she still felt embarrassed about the other choices of music. For someone who took pride in everything she did, her fear of others knowing about her music taste was rather ironic. Airi's music, however, was something very personal to her. Her dad would always tell her stories of her mother, but there was one story in particular that Airi loved to hear. As the train chugged along, Airi thought back to that same story to pass her time.
It was their third date together and her mother insisted they go to an old retro restaurant she quite liked. Her father agreed and they planned for it to happen right after school on Friday. Unfortunately, it had begun to rain that day and by the time school ended, it was raining. Hard. Because her father's house was much farther away, her mother invited him to her house for the night. Her mother was determined to make the most of a bad situation. If they couldn't go to the retro style restaurant, it would come to them. She quickly got to work and made the living room into a makeshift disco floor with a homemade disco ball made from a color-changing lightbulb attached to a battery placed inside a paper lantern that was attached to a slowly-spinning fan. She then pulled out an antique boombox and tada, a disco floor in her home. City pop and jazz played endlessly from that little boombox and her mother and her father danced the rainy night away, complete with food her mother cooked herself.
Many of the same songs that her mother had were passed down to Airi, who grew up listening to the same genres her mother did. These songs held a special place in heart because it was the only thing she had of her mother, besides the stories her father told her. They comforted Airi in her time of need and relaxed when she was stressed which was why she wasn't going to leave them back in her hometown. They were coming with her as well.
"This is Hakata Station."
"Finally!" Airi thought to herself as she picked up the handle of her luggage and stepped out the train. She was about one-third of the way to Musutafu. She quickly bought another ticket and made her way to Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen. It would be about another five hours until she would have to switch again, so she would have to find a way to bide the time until she got there. Airi picked out a seat in the back corner of the train compartment and pushed her heavy luggage underneath her seat. Now, the next part of her journey began. "I'm just gonna take a quick nap... I can sightsee later." Airi laid her head back, pressed play on another playlist and before she knew it, she was fast asleep.
Turning and tossing in her sleep, Airi woke up suddenly, sweating profusely. Her eyes darting around as she quickly. realized where she was. "I'm still in the train." She buried her face into her hands, quietly sighing in relief. It was only a nightmare. Still oblivious of the boy sitting next to her, she checked her phone. "It's nine o'clock. So I was only asleep for an hour." She muttered to herself. "I'm at fifty percent?" If she didn't conserve her phone battery, by the time she got to Musutafu, she wouldn't have any battery left. Airi promptly lowered the brightness but kept the music playing. After having such a vivid nightmare, it was dearly needed. Finally looking up from her phone, Airi noticed the boy who was sitting near her.
He had bandages all over him! "What the hell?" Airi looked away, hoping that he hadn't seen her staring. Was this guy some sort of runaway patient, why was he covered head to toe in bandages? And what was with that weird thing he had wrapped around his waist? Was that a tail or some sort of sword? Airi had so many questions, but she really didn't want to end up talking to some strangers, especially one that looks like he could be annoying. Airi shook her head, pushing these thoughts out of her head, and stared outside instead, admiring the landscape that was passing by.

Let’s see, I can take this orb path and get his Ultra Super Attack...or I could have Black block the attack, since he’s probably gonna Super Attack me…
Jack’s mind was on hyperdrive as he played his little game, working out every possible strategy he could do against the boss he was currently fighting. He’s always been like this, when he would later think about his time on the train. His mind was always going from one place to another at a rapid pace, which made everything but conversation a pain in the butt, and even then, he would tend to ramble on when he actually got into one.
Seriously, though, who’s cells made Cell look like a god damn bug man?
However, the one thing that was very apparent about Jack was that he was very, VERY skittish. Whenever someone would break him outside of his thoughts, he would get startled and yelp like a small puppy. His parents would always tease him about that, playing practical jokes on him whenever Jack was reading or playing his Nintendo or Playstation system. ”You’ll always be our little puppy dragon, no matter how old you get or how famous you become as a hero,” they would always tell him. He huffed as he thought that, as while that always embarrassed him greatly, it also made him homesick.
No...when I next come home, I’ll...I’ll be the greatest dragon hero that ever walked the earth! I’m gonna shine as bright as...as Sirius! he thought confidently, nodding to himself. Confidence began to build up in his chest, filling Jack with renewed vigor. He can do this! He’ll make his Ma and Pop proud!
And then the woman across from him woke up from an apparent nightmare.
Her sudden reaction caused Jack to, of course, yelp like a little puppy, jumping a little out of his seat, slightly tossing his phone up. His tail came up a bit, almost like a snake, the soft fur lining it standing straight up like spikes, ruining whatever illusion of a belt he may have had. He clumsily caught his phone before he could drop it, and attempted to push his tail back down, only for it to spring right back up, almost like it had a mind of its own. Of course, people promptly noticed this and stared at him. He could already hear people murmuring, which caused his face to become the color of a strawberry.
He looked down, trying to ignore them, whilst also running a hand through his hair. His hood had fallen down when he jumped, revealing a young looking face, fluffy, slightly messy white hair, and, probably his most striking feature, his big, light violet eyes. The only striking feature that didn’t show were his teeth, which looked almost like a dog’s, while still looking human at the same time. At least that didn’t give the people around him more to talk about.
He looked down, taking a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. However, he still had a weird feeling. It felt like...someone was staring at him directly? He looked around for a second, just barely catching the woman who had startled him to begin with suddenly turning her head around, promptly away from him. Jack raised his eyebrows a little, wondering if he had done something wrong.
After a moment, Jack finally managed to work up the nerve to actually say something. ”Um...a-are you ok, miss?” he asked shyly. At this point, he didn’t even try to hide his teeth as every other aspect of him had already been exposed. He had a worried look on his face, partially for the fact that he was nervous as hell talking to someone and partially for the girl’s wellbeing. He fiddled with the top of his own bag, which was just a basic blue GameBoy bag with UA and hero stickers on it. He partially wondered what the girl thought about him, though if she answered him he supposed that he would find out soon enough.

Airi sighed as she lifted her head back up, turning her eyes back towards the boy in front of her. She stared at him with a slightly annoyed but mostly troubled look on her face. "..I'm f-fine. Leave me.. alone. " Airi glumly answered, choking up mid-sentence. She quickly turned away, hiding her distressed face away from him. She wasn't feeling quite well and she didn't want to make it obvious to this guy that she was. She didn't want anybody pitying her, especially some guy that looked like he was about to pee himself just from talking to her. She'd much rather deal with her problems herself.
Airi pressed her left face against the train's window, squishing her left cheek on the cold, transparent glass. Now all she had were her thoughts and the music playing in her headphones. "Just focus on the trees passing by.. nothing else." She told herself in her thoughts, trying to relax. "no.." Airi muttered, shaking her head. She couldn't stop seeing those images. She never wanted to see those horrid images again, not ever. Airi's right hand began to shake as she reached for her phone. She picked up her phone, hand still trembling, and with a little difficulty, raised the volume to the max before placing it back into her pocket. She closed her eyes, mouthing the words to the song playing, hoping to distract herself even more. But.. it just wasn't helping.
She just kept seeing, remembering awful, terrifying images from her nightmare. Each time another one popped into her thoughts, she would wince; her forehead wrinkling as she dug her nails in the palm of her hand more and more. All she wanted to do was forget, but she could nothing but remember. The thoughts became more and more vivid in her mind, making Airi more and more distressed.
Suddenly, Airi stood up from her seat, her hands covering her mouth appearing as if she needed to vomit and indeed she needed to. She turned and ran toward the nearest bathroom, her hands still in the same position. Quickly, she grabbed the door handle, opening it before entering the small bathroom and closing the door behind her. She sat down on the floor, got her knees, and vomited straight into the toilet, throwing up chunks of half-digested pieces of breakfast mixed with stomach acid. It was truly disgusting. She paused before vomiting once more, spitting out the rest of the puke in her mouth, and then flushed the toilet, the vomit swirling down into the drain and disappearing.
Airi proceeded to rinse her mouth with water in an attempt to get the strong taste of acid out of her mouth. Once she was done with that, she lowered the lid of the toilet and sat down, lowering her face into her hands. That horrific face still lingered in her thoughts, like a weight dragging her down that she couldn't get rid off. This wasn't the first time she was feeling this way and this wouldn't be the last time. Airi cried softly into her hands as tears welled up in her eyes. That's all she could really do anyway. She didn't want help from other people anyway, they wouldn't understand. Nobody did! They always said the same things, the same empty statements that meant nothing. It was her fault, all of it. Nothing would change that. Airi curled into a ball as she continued to cry, her sobbing muffled by the sounds of the train.
After a few minutes, Airi got herself up. She vigorously wiped away at her eyes, trying to hide the evidence that she had been crying. Airi left the bathroom, closing the door behind her, and headed back to her seat. She picked up her phone and headphones and sat back down, staring directly at the boy in front of her with a much less distressed look on her face. However, it was rather obvious that she had been crying as her cheeks were rather puffy and her eyes were redder than before.
Airi was going to avoid her thoughts by talking to the boy, something she would normally never do. However, she still felt a little sick so to get her mind off things, she spoke up. "Why the hell do you have so many bandages on you? Are you a runaway patient or something? You look like a stupid mummy." She told him, sniffling.

Jack raised his eyebrows a little as the woman gave him a rather odd response. It wasn’t really the response itself that was odd, but it was moreso the way she said it. Jesus, she looks awful! Just what kind of nightmare did she have just now…? he thought, the shy look he had on before quickly turning into one of worry. It was almost like a secondary instinct that the boy had; he was just protective of other people, which, admittedly, contradicted his usual shyness. However, that was what made Jack want to be a hero, so that people wouldn’t have to face against people like…
Like the man who almost took his life.
Jack paled a bit at the sudden memory, looking away from the woman and once again running a hand through his fluffy hair. Despite the fact that he was so young, the memory of that night stuck with him in the back of his mind. The look the man gave him as he was about to plunge a razor-sharp knife right into his heart, just because he wanted some extra cash…
The idea that someone could actually be like that was absolutely mortifying to him. That’s why he was going to be the light that the darkness feared, the light that could warm even the coldest of hearts! The conflicting thoughts in his mind were once again pushed back by a sudden inspiration. He took a deep breath, recomposing himself, once again facing the lady, at the very least to try and strike up a conversation.
However, just before he could say anything, she bolted to the bathroom, practically out of the blue. Before long, before Jack could even question what had just happened, he could hear her suddenly vomiting into the toilet. He covered his own mouth in disbelief, his mind trying to comprehend what could make someone so ill out of the blue like that. Of course, he had zero ideas about the extent of her own problems, but he couldn’t really help but worry about her.
Then, there was silence, except for the sounds of the train. He pursed his lips in thought, wondering if there was really anything he could do when she inevitably came back to her seat. There were still a couple hours before he reached UA, after all. Maybe he could at least do something to help cheer her up.
After a couple more minutes, the woman did indeed come back. Her eyes were redder than before, and her cheeks were a little puffy, no doubt confirming that Jack hadn’t been imagining the crying from earlier. He said nothing at first, trying to keep the worry off of his face, trying to mask it with a shy look once more. It was clear that the woman would likely be a stubborn one, so it was likely best to take the gentle approach, and let her talk in her own time.
Surely enough, after a minute, the woman finally spoke up. She questioned why the boy had so many bandages all over him, along with with a couple rude comments about him being a runaway patient or a mummy. Not really one to take offense, especially considering he did look a bit ridiculous, Jack simply giggled shyly and scratched the back of his head before replying.
”Ah, well...I went a little overboard with training with my Quirk, that's all.” he said, not really going in depth about what his Quirk actually was. If she really wanted to know, then she could ask. He felt that it would be wise to watch what he said to the woman and to try and not ramble on and on about a topic. The only thing that would accomplish is likely pissing the woman off.
After that, he would simply wave off the earlier comments about him looking like a runaway patient. ”I’m just, erm...a hopeful guy trying to get into U.A., I guess. That’s where I’m heading right now, actually. It might be a good idea to actually get a good look about where I might be staying for the next couple of years, you know?” He smiled a bit, a sudden hopeful look appearing on his face.
He then suddenly caught himself, realizing that he was saying all of this but not even properly introducing himself yet. Stupid Jack, get in the game! ”O-oh, right! I’m Jack, by the way, miss. It’s nice to meet you!” he said, giving her a big smile, though it was clear that he was trying to avoid mentioning that she looked like she just saw an army of ghosts. He also looked a bit ridiculous, what with his rather sharp teeth trying to imitate an innocent smile, but he managed, at least somewhat.
Whatever her response would be, Jack would then try to learn more about the woman, though not trying to push his boundaries. ”What about you, miss? Anywhere in particular you’re heading?” he asked, once again keeping that innocent look on his face, at least as much as a dragon boy really could. Hopefully she wouldn’t get the wrong idea and slap him, but, hey, no gain comes from no risk, he supposed.

"What the hell kinda of her quirk do you have that you end up covered in bandages like this? Like, did you burn yourself or something?" Airi asked with a confused look. "How the hell do you even mess up that bad?" While she had difficulty with her quirk sometimes, she knew how to control it enough without hurting herself. She knew her limits and what abusing those limits would do to her. Although.. she wasn't even that powerful. This kid was able to hurt himself to the point of needing bandages. He must have somethin- No. She couldn't put herself down in front of him. She had to be better. "You must not be that good with it, I'm guessing."
She'd listen as he continued before being surprised by the reveal that this kid was also en route to U.A. She wasn't the only one. Although, she didn't feel that excited about meeting another prospective U.A student. He didn't even look like U.A. material, especially if he still was getting hurt by his own quirk. "You're not even accepted, why are you getting the scope out for a place you're not even in yet?" Airi questioned. "You should know whether or not if you're in the school first, only an idiot would waste their time like this." Despite trying to hold a conversation with Jack, Airi's rude language persisted. She didn't want to make this kid think she was someone pushover who cried for everything. If the kid was joining U.A. as well, she needed to make sure he knew who was the better of the two. He needed to respect her like the great hero she already was. The great hero she had to be.. to make up for her mistakes.
"My name is Kurusu Airi." Airi introduced herself as well. "Stop smiling, you look like an idiot." She said as she stared outside the window with her arms crossed. "Jack.. must be American or something. He's so pale too... is this kid a vampire?'" Her eyes drifted back to Jack as he asked where she was headed. "Don't call me miss, dumbass, I'm the same age as you. Hmph. it's not like I'm gonna call you mister. Don't be stupid." Airi sniffled once more.
She, once again, stared outside the window as she gave him an answer. "I'm going to U.A too, but I'm gonna live there. I already know I'm getting in, unlike you, so I have nothing to worry about." Although she was in the same predicament as Jack, she believed that she was guaranteed to get in based on her excellent grades. Not only that, her application letter was so good they would be stupid not to accept her. She had no worries at all.

Jack’s face flushed a bit in surprise when the woman asked about his Quirk. He didn’t actually think that she would be interested at all, given her rather rude temperament. He hesitated, not really knowing what to say about the matter. He wasn’t exactly one to boast about his “super ultra mega awesome dragon Quirk”, given the fact that we partially afraid of himself. It also wasn’t a matter of being good with it, either. Transforming is more of an instinctual thing; you just KNOW how to do it perfectly. Your body properly adjusting to it, however, was another matter.
He pursed his lips, and was quiet for a good minute, thinking about what to say. ”Well, uh...I-I’m a dragon,” he said finally, scratching the back of his head before adding ”Or, at least, I can turn into one.” His face flushed even further as he said the words, and would gauge the woman’s reaction before continuing. ”The bandages are just because, well, sometimes when my scales retract into my body, they don’t always seal up right away, so they leave cuts all over me. And, like I said...I’ve pushed it a lot lately, so it’s taking longer for them to heal, so…”
He would then wait for the woman’s response to all of that before continuing on. Once more, the woman gave a rather rude response, calling an idiot for wasting his time going to scope out a place that he doesn’t know he’s going to get accepted into yet. However, Jack still didn’t really seem offended; honestly speaking, he’s told himself all of this before. The downside of being the way he is was a severe lack in self confidence, at least as a person. The woman could honestly talk him down all she wanted to; it wouldn’t really matter.
He shook his head as she said that, saying, surprisingly stubbornly, ”Even so...even if I don’t know I’m going to get in, I’m still going to do my hardest to actually get in. That’s all we can do at the end of the day, right? Besides, it...it doesn’t hurt to at least know what to expect...” he trailed off a bit, that split second of defiance quickly fading into uncertainty, mostly because he already KNEW that he wasn’t U.A. material. But...he still had to try! If this was the path to properly helping people as much as he could, then he’ll do what he needs to to get in!
However, after that little moment, Jack caught himself and properly introduced himself. Likewise, the woman introduced herself as Kurusu Airi. Jack already knew that the people down here in Japan introduced themselves by their family name first, and also knew that it was more polite to call them by that unless they got closer. Kurusu then promptly told him to stop smiling, saying he looked like an idiot. He pursed his lips in response, blushing a bit.
His face then flushed further as she promptly told him not to call her miss, considering that they were the same age. He decided not to point out that that was the usual way to greet someone the same age as them that they didn’t know, at least in America. He just didn’t want to be rude, but he supposed that gave him permission to at least call her Kurusu. She then sniffled a bit, though he didn’t know if that was just her being rude still or if it was from her crying earlier. He still said nothing about the matter, knowing well enough at this point that doing so will close her off entirely. Best to just let her do it herself.
Kurusu then went on to say that she was going to U.A. herself, making Jack’s eyebrows raise a little in surprise. Small world, he supposed. However, she seemed to be much more sure of herself that she was going to get in. It made him wonder what her own Quirk was, wondering if that’s what made her so confident. Jack’s own grades were rather good as well, despite Jack obviously not looking like a scholar or anything of the sort.
He tilted his head from side to side in thought. ”I’m sure we’ll both get in,” he said finally, nodding to himself, trying to reassure mostly himself. He then allowed himself a bit of a grin, saying simply ”I may not look it, but I know how to handle myself in a fight.” This was true, of course; he knew the basics of martial arts, deciding that it was best for him to discover his own way of fighting at U.A. If he was confident about anything about himself, it was his ability to fight and take charge if the situation called for it.
After a moment of silence after that, he finally decided to try and learn more about the girl in front of him. ”What about you, by the way? What’s your Quirk? Probably something better than turning into a big lizard with wings,” he asked, being completely honest at that last part. He wondered about the extents of the type of Quirks that could develop within people. If people could shoot fire from their entire bodies and turn into dragons bigger than the train car they were in, who knows just how far they could go! The idea actually hyped him up a little, giving him a look of childhood excitement as he waited for Kurusu for respond. He was probably going to be amazed no matter what and go on a big science ramble, but it was probably best to wait until she responded. No need to talk her ear off…
Yet.

"You're a dragon?" Airi asked. It was pretty surprising to hear, but in retrospect, it made a lot of sense. He had sharp teeth and a kind of spiky tail. Regardless, she still wanted to hear more so she listened as he explained in detail why he was covered in bandages. The reasoning ended up being scales that made cuts when they retracted into his body, although that sentence itself didn't make that much sense. "I'm pretty sure they would make cuts when they extend from your body, not the other way around. Also, shouldn't you be used to your own quirk now? Or do you just walk around like an idiot wearing bandages all the time?"
"What a crappy quirk to have." Airi thought to herself. As she learned more and more about other quirks people possessed, she became more and more happy to have the quirk that she did. She could go through her life never worrying about getting hurt or inconvenienced by it, especially if she never used it. She could never imagine what it would feel like to be mutated or have to undergo transformation and she was thankful she never would.
Still, despite having an odd appreciation for the nature of the quirk, she wasn't very happy with its strength. She couldn't very much offensively besides momentarily stun or shock a person. Anything above that would hurt her and that was a limit she knew couldn't pass even with much training. Still, it wasn't going to stop her from trying her best. She'd just have to pick up for her weakness with another way of fighting. Maybe through sword fighting? She was pretty good at fencing after all.
"We? There's no we here, you're the one who has to try hard, I'm fine." Airi remarked. "I don't need you to tell me whether or not I'm getting in." She didn't appreciate him trying to associate himself with her. She was going to be leagues higher than him, she had to be. She was actually rather confident about her chances about getting in so what she was saying was coming from the heart. "You looked like you were about to piss yourself when I woke up so I doubt you know how to fight. Don't lie to me." Airi said nonchalantly as if what she said was obvious. Again she stared back outside the window.
"My quirk? Yeah, it's a lot cooler than yours. Normally I wouldn't tell losers like you, but I'll make a special occasion cause you seem interested. I can uh.. channel electricity through my hands and feet, by like absorbing it from stuff. I can also just keep it inside me." Airi answered, not going into too much detail. She felt like it was a bad idea to divulge too much information to a guy she just met, so instead, she decided to keep her description somewhat vague.

Jack tilted his head as Airi went on to provide her own logic on how the cuts on him would appear. ”Well, I mean, it’s not so much that they’re making cuts, it’s moreso that the slits that they make as they come out don’t close up right away sometimes, especially when I push myself to my limits,” he explained, clarifying what he had meant from earlier. It was mostly just his body getting more used to fully transforming, as he was much more used to partial transformations than increasing his size to that of an American school bus.
He then scratched the back of his head as she then went on to ask why he isn’t used to his own Quirk. He didn’t really know what he should say, considering he would have to explain the more strategic part of his Quirk. He pursed his lips a bit, then simply said ”I’m not used to having to fully transform like I’ve been practicing yet. I’ve only really been doing so recently.” He left it at that, waiting to see how the hot-headed girl would react to that, and to see if she was curious enough to probe further.
Honestly, he didn’t mind being more open about how his Quirk works. That’s just something he would have to come clean about to begin with. It wasn’t really like he was declaring his life story to her, after all. It was about as casual nowadays as saying ‘Hey, what’s your favorite Pocket Monster?’ Considering that they were going to be eventually become U.A. students all the same, they would find out what their Quirks were anyway. Better sooner than later, after all.
He then made a remark on how he was sure they would both get into U.A., to which Airi would reply with how there was no ‘we’ in that sense, exuding a big explosion of confidence. He frowned just a bit at that, considering that he doubted that either of them knew what it was that U.A. looked at when they applied. He wasn’t scared about his grades at all, in all honesty, having practically aced the majority of them. It was moreso a fear of how dangerous they would view his Quirk, considering he was a full-blown dragon of legend.
This thought was then amplified when Airi then questioned his ability to fight. That, honestly, struck a bit of a nerve. If there was anything that he took pride in, it was his abilities in combat. It definitely showed on his face as he then said ”You’re questioning if a dragon, with full on claws and razor sharp teeth-” he opened his mouth with his fingers just a tad, showing off said razor sharp teeth, ”-knows how to fight?” He left the comment at that, letting the comment sink in. He may be shy, but he was no coward.
Whatever the response was to that, Jack would wait for a minute before then asking how Airi’s Quirk was. She once again gave off an air of bravado, saying that her Quirk was a lot cooler than his own. She then explained how she could absorb and discharge electricity. He raised his eyebrows in interest, his mind immediately going to work on how it might work. ”Huh...that’s actually pretty cool! I wonder how your body actually processes that...through an extra organ, maybe…?” he replied, that last part being him thinking aloud.
He then looked back up at her, clearly embarrassed. ”A-ah, sorry. Bad habit of mine. I’m just really interested in how Quirks work, ‘cause, y’know...biology and such…” He chuckled a bit nervously, not really knowing what to say from there. He stared out the window for a little while, taking in the sights of Japan as they rolled past. ”I’m surprised that I’m even here, given what’s happened to me and how I am…” he murmured, once again thinking aloud without noticing. Whether Airi would comment on in is debatable, but past that Jack didn’t really know what else to say to, given her rather hard exterior. He wanted to ask what had happened to make her so violently sick earlier, but...he’d probably just get slapped for it.
Probably just best to shut up for now, he supposed.

"You didn't really make that clear, it's not my fault for misunderstanding." Airi answered back, trying to save face. She hadn't been listening particularly well partly because she didn't care all that much, but because she was still a bit distracted. "Anyway, you should be more used to your quirk." Airi knew she was a bit of hypocrite saying that, but it wasn't as if he knew any better about her ability to use her quirk.
"Is he mad that I called him out? Must've struck a nerve.. ugh what a child." Airi let out a sigh as she watched as Jack tried to.. intimidate her? She wasn't entirely sure what showing his teeth to her would accomplish, but whatever his goal was, he had definitely failed. "Was that supposed to scare me or something? Or were you trying to prove your point? I don't care, you look like an idiot who doesn't brush his teeth rather than some mythical creature. Regardless, you're stupid if you think pure strength means you know how to fight. There's a difference between mindlessly attacking and combat. You've made it painfully obvious though that you don't know how to fight. Only losers lie about that sort of stuff." Airi finished, scoffing at the idea that he knew at all what he was talking about.
Although she was well aware she herself didn't know how to fight, she felt okay saying what she did because unlike the boy in front of, she wasn't boasting about her own combat abilities. Going to U.A. would definitely help her in that area.
Jack's response to her quirk was rather jarring to hear, in fact. Airi hadn't expected for him to compliment it or even go as far as to call it cool. "U-uh.. yeah, it is pretty cool." She muttered with a slight blush on her face. His comment had caught her off-guard and it definitely showed. Embarrassed, Airi turned back to the window and hoped that he wouldn't see the crimson in her cheeks.
"Biology is interesting." She answered back, unsure of what else to say. As the landscape passed by in a blur, Airi would watch her window for several minutes. Fortunately, Jack broke the silence with a comment. "You're surprised that you're here? Why? I'm not."

Jack’s face flushed a little as Airi rather bluntly brought up how he should be more used to his Quirk. While in most situations she would definitely be correct, in his case it was a much different matter, given that admittedly the last time he had fully transformed at this point was the day that he was almost killed, 10 years ago. He knew he had the ability, but the idea scared him, considering he didn’t know if he would go berserk again. ”I-I mean, it’s kinda hard to find places to train with it when you turn into roughly the size of an American school bus…” he replied, trying to find the most reasonable excuse for not being too used to it. He hoped that she would be understanding in that regard.
She then went on to question Jack’s ability to fight, of course promptly a rather annoyed reaction out of the small boy, making him say something that he honestly didn’t really think about: strength doesn’t equal combat ability. Airi was wise enough to actually point that out, scolding him a bit for unintentionally trying to intimidate her. Jack couldn’t really help but feel his face turn red again, though this time was out of embarrassment than annoyance.
”S-sorry...I just meant it in the sense that dragons are often known for ferocity and all that, with the sharp teeth and the claws and stuff...Sorry about that,” he replied meekly, scratching the back of his head before continuing to explain. ”It probably would have been wiser to say that I have some experience in martial arts. I get a bit prideful about that aspect of myself, forgive me.” He hoped that the sassy girl would at least find an understanding for that, and not follow up with another coy response.
After that, however, he went silent, gazing out the window for a while. He thought aloud to himself after a moment, saying that he was honestly surprised that he was here at all. Airi’s response wasn’t a rude one, for once; moreso of curiousity. Why did he feel that way? The mere thought of the answer made Jack purse his lips.
”...Eh. I’m not exactly a people person, let’s leave it at that…” he said simply, not wanting to go into his past with a stranger. His Quirk was one thing: it was a part of him that he was both sickened by but proud of. It was a part of who he was. His past, on the other hand, still gave him nightmares, even 10 years later.
However, he once again put on a small smile, trying to think more wistfully. ”But...I’ve also never gotten to see another part of the world. It’s definitely been a culture shock for me, to say the least. Sorry if my Japanese is poor, but I have been trying to learn it over the last year or so. Hopefully I don’t say anything potato- Sorry, I mean wrong.” he said, frowning a bit at the confusion. He wasn’t perfect, but at least he was trying.
