APPEARANCE AND PERSONALITY
Appearance:
Shimo is massive in size, a couple feet taller than most humans when standing on his hind legs, and often must walk on all fours in order to get around in normal society. The entirety of his body is covered in tufts of translucent fur. Soft to the touch, this fur appears white to most, hiding the darker than black, porous skin underneath. His face is utterly inhuman, with a wet nose on the end of a snout containing a massive set of sharp teeth meant for tearing flesh. His ears are high on his head and rounded, while his face, with those beady, black eyes, is hard to read. His front legs, or arms, differ slightly from other polar bears, and host opposable thumbs, so he can actually shake hands. Whenever he can, he will stand on his hind legs in order to appear as anthropomorphic as possible. Much of his body is also covered with a set of metal armor plating, eliminating the need for clothing as it covers everything necessary. Still, Shimo likes to try to experiment with wearing clothes on any occasion where he can actual obtain any sized to fit his gigantic frame.
POSITIVE
✔ Loyal, Friendly, Optimistic
NEGATIVE
✖ Gullible, doesn’t know his own strength, has trouble saying no
LIKES
✔ Ice Cream, Heroes, working with his hands
DISLIKES
✖ Quirkists, high temperatures, hurting people accidentally
Personality:
Shimo has the makings of a fantastic friend. He is friendly and always optimistic, as well as being loyal to a fault. If you are good to him, he will be invariably good to year, and even if you aren’t, he is still a very nice guy. He aims to please people and had a very hard time saying no to things that are asked of him, which usually ends up with him being stuck with all sorts of tasks and responsibilities that originally weren’t his. He is also quite gullible, because he wants to trust people so badly and make friends. He truly admires the Heroes of the world, and the vigilantes from which they sprang. He feels like they do a great job of improving the public’s opinion of those who are cursed with quirks. Because Shimo’s quirk is so obvious, coupled with the fact that he isn’t even human, he much more often the subject of public Quirkist ridicule. There aren’t many things that Shimo hates besides hot, sticky days, but Quirkists are something he absolutely abhors. Nevertheless, he maintains his optimistic outlook of the world and believes that human beings are inherently good, or at least want to be. Sometimes this turns out to be rather problematic, however, because he wants to be friendly with his huge, overwhelming body. Sometimes he misjudges his own strength and can hurt other people accidentally, which is one of the few things that can make him depressed.

HISTORY
Shima was born in the Arctic Circle, one of the very small population of polar bears left in the world. From the moment he was born, he was obviously different from his brother and the others of his species. His armor was there from the very beginning. Fortunately, that wasn’t enough to cause his mother to reject him outright. However, as time passed, it was clear he was much more different than he initially appeared. Early on, he discovered the use of his opposable thumbs and began using makeshift tools to assist in hunting seals. Soon after, he was coming up with all sorts of different strategies to make life in the arctic circle easier. None of the other polar bears did anything like this and, instead of appreciating his help, they shunned him and left him alone in the cold before he was even a year old.
One day, a pair of Japanese scientists who worked with a group studying the Arctic Circle found Shimo wandering alone on the ice. He didn’t know what to make of them, but he was curious and approached. He mimicked them and stood up on his hind legs, waving his front legs in the air to signal that he meant no harm. At first they were scared and began to retreat, but soon enough they realized something was off, between his armor and the strange behavior. They approached and Shimo tried his best to communicate. They realized that he was uncommonly intelligent and brought him back to base to tag him for study.
Over the next two years or so, Shimo managed to learn human speech, gained his name, and became very close with the scientists who discovered him. The Yorois were married, with no children of their own, dedicated to their work. The government sponsoring them wanted to take Shimo in to a lab for further study, but at this point it was clear that Shimo was sentient with at least near-human intelligence. Destroying their reputation in the scientist community, they publicized his existence in order to force the government to acknowledge his sentience and grant him status as a person.
Unable to continue their work due to what they had done, the Yorois adopted Shimo as their child and moved back to Japan. They got more mundane jobs and continued their scientific study by raising and teaching Shimo as a person. Still not fully grown, Shimo has adapted surprisingly well to human society. He faced a lot of prejudice in public, but always managed to persevere due to the love and attention he received from his adoptive parents. Most people were fascinated by him and he strove to make friends with whomever he could.
By the time the Hero Schools were being built, Shimo had already developed a fascination for people who used their quirks to stop criminals, for good. He wanted to be just like them and dreamed of becoming one himself. Although he generally disliked fighting that wasn’t in the pursuit of food, he was determined make himself strong enough to achieve his newfound goal. Of course, he would apply to Yuuei, eager to connect with fellow hero hopefuls as classmates and move closer to his profession of choice.

QUIRK INFORMATION
Panserbjørne
Type: Mutation
Rank: E
Description: Shimo is not actually a human being. He is, simply stated, a polar bear with a quirk. Somehow, his brain developed to the point that he is intellectually equivalent to a human being. His hands, although still massive and clawed, have developed opposable thumbs and he is able to stand and walk on his hind legs, giving him a little more of an anthropomorphic quality, although he is still, ultimate, a polar bear. He retains the vast size and strength of a polar bear (and could eventually reach a height of 3m on hind legs), as well as the hypercarnivorous dietary needs and environmental preferences. The strangest part of the quirk mutation, however, is the set of metal armor plates that grow out of his body. This armor is an integral part of his body, like an organ, and when it is significantly damaged or destroyed, he feels like his soul has been harmed in the process. Fortunately, it can also be repaired and regenerated using natural metals.
Effects:
Effect #1: Polar Bear Body - Shimo’s body is nearly indistinguishable from that of a polar bear of equivalent age, which includes all the things that come with it. Thanks to his inhumanly large size and muscle mass, he is provided with enhanced Strength, powerful enough for him to smash stone with his bear hands.
Effect #2: Soul Plate - The armored plating that comes attached to Shimo’s body provides him with ample protection from incoming damage. This enhanced Durability allows him to withstand hits that could crush stone.
Drawback and Weaknesses:
His uncommonly large size is often cumbersome and inconvenient for getting around places and spaces designed for normal sized people.
Being from a cold climate, Shimo does not deal well with warm weather and is weak to heat or fire based attacks and the like.
His Soul Plate armor is actually a part of his body, so he can never take it off. If it is significantly damage or destroyed in some way during a thread, he suffers from a bout of Exhaustion and is marginally drained of stamina. Fortunately once a thread is complete, he is able to repair his armor off screen.

COMBAT ABILITIES
Great Big Bear Hug!
Type: Skill
Rank: F
Effect: Shimo really doesn’t want to permanently harm or kill anyone, but he isn’t afraid to fight. Ideally, he would like to end a fight with the least harm possible, so he has begun to learn different ways of causing Exhaustion in his opponents. By giving them a big bear hug, getting them in a chokehold, or even just sitting on them, among other things, to take their breath away, put pressure on their organs, or temporarily cut off blood flow to the brain, Shimo can marginally drain their stamina.
Travel Mode Mastery
Type: Enhancement
Rank: F
Effect: Since being brought into human society, Shimo has learned well how to move and run both on two legs and on four, as well as swimming. Due to his training, in all three modes, he has a Move Speed about equivalent to that of a fitness instructor.
Ursa Maga
Type: Skill
Rank: F
Effect: In order to fight as a hero, Shimo has taught himself a version of the Krav Maga Fighting Style tailored to his rather massive quadrupedal body, as if he were trained at a Local Dojo. The focus on simultaneous offense and defense as well as physical aggression, takedowns, and simple, practical strikes makes this style perfect for a literal bear.
Arctic Stamina
Type: Enhancement
Rank: F
Effect: The Stamina built up in Shimo by his childhood in the Arctic Circle allows him to fight at maximum strength for up to 3 posts before tiring.
